General :
Riversdale was a football club in the Hawthorn area of Melbourne. Many thanks to the folk at Early History of Hawthorn for an application of research which would probably kill an elephant.

Guernseys & Nicknames :
1887 - Riversdale wore black and yellow colours.
1888 - Riversdale were known as the Rivs.
1889 - Riversdale wore black and yellow colours.
1896 - Hawthorn Juniors wore red and black colours.

Grounds :
1885 - Riversdale played at Grace Park.

Timeline :
1884 - Riversdale FC existed.
1885 - Victorian Junior FA : Teams playing each other this year included Windsor, Windsor Union and Riversdale.

1886 :
Riversdale disbanded, then reformed as Hawthorn Juniors FC.
Hawthorn Juniors played against Camberwell, Saint Martins, West Melbourne Excelsior, Rosedale and South Yarra Waverley.
Hawthorn Juniors was listed to be of equal strength to Grace Park, and stronger than Weinberg FC.

1887 :
Hawthorn Juniors FC changed name back to Riversdale FC. The history site listed in links below suggests as a guess that perhaps this was a merger which may also have involved Weinberg.
Riversdale played against teams such as Camberwell, Fitzroy Imperial, Port Melbourne Seconds, South Melbourne Alberts, Marylebone, East Hawthorn, Star Of Fitzroy, Kew, Fernside, East Richmond, Rainbow and South Yarra-Waverley.

1888 :
Riversdale played against Fitzroy Rovers, North Brunswick, South Park, Marylebone, Surrey Hills, La Mascotte, South Yarra-Waverley, Kew, Camberwell, Fitzroy Imperial, South Melb Alberts.
Riversdale were the leading club in Hawthorn.

1889 (Victorian JFA) :
Riversdale was becoming a club to be reckoned with amongst the junior grades.
Riversdale played against Glenferrie Juniors (practice match), Richmond Dingoes, Lincoln 2nds, North Fitzroy, North Park 2nd, Saint Kilda Grosvenor, Port Melbourne Imperial, Hawthorn Fire Brigade, Surrey Hills, Carlton United, Glenferrie, Princes Hill and Camberwell.
At some stage, Riversdale FC changed name to Hawthorn (late Riversdale) FC.

1890 - Hawthorn (late Riversdale) FC disbanded early in the year.
1896 - A Hawthorn Juniors FC commenced, as a third-rate club in the Victorian Junior FA.



1906 - MJFA : Riversdale participated.


1913 - Melbourne DFA : Hawthorn B participated.
